With the San Beda Red Lions leading the present NCAA ranks at 7-0, we can’t help now but reminisce the time when San Beda pulled an epic 18-0 sweep a few seasons back. That was Season 86 in 2010, when the Red Lions had Sudan Daniel leading the quest to steal the crown from the Stags. That was also when the Red Cubs dominated over the Staglets in the juniors' division—making it a double kill for Mendiola.
Also six years ago, the sensational Fil-Australian-Czech twins David and Anthony Semerad of San Beda were starting to make a name for themselves as they proved to be vital players in the games. Proof of their popularity surge? In July 2011, they would cover a youth magazine together for a supposed “NCAA Issue.” They was just about to taste their first back-to-back championship then.
In December that year, however, David and Anthony would confirm their transfer to Ateneo for reasons that spanned from “We're really concerned about our development” to “Yes, San Beda has a great basketball program but maybe for my brother and I, it's not suited for us.”
And then, of course, the rest was history. After issuing a reconciliation letter addressed to the Bedan authorities and its community, all became well for the prodigal two. The two consecutive championships that followed plus Anthony’s Season 90 trophy would attest to that.
Sure, they were every NCAA fangirl’s dream boys. After several modeling gigs here and there (some were really risqué ones!), however, the Semerad twins who now play in opposite teams still stand tall as legit basketball players in the PBA. As tribute to their glory days, here’s a series of #throwback photos from their Chalk Magazine cover shoot in 2011!
