We don’t know about you, but there was just something about Kim Fajardo so amusing whenever we watched her in the UAAP. And then we’d come to a unanimous epiphany that maybe, it’s that… bungisngis. No La Salle game in recent history has this former Thomasian prodigy and multi-awarded setter sported a frown even as a captain under pressure, and it’s one reason why she’s going to be missed hard by UAAP fans if she finally decides to ditch her last playing year.
“If ever na hindi ako mag-stay, siguro dahil sa family matters or pag nag-stay ako, dahil yun sa sobrang love ko yung team. Pero mahirap din kasi na mayron kang family tapos may teammates ka na family mo na din,” she told us, post-UAAP Season 78 championship.
In recent reports, though, the cheery Fajardo has spoken about her final decision, one she says she shall reveal once FIVB Women’s Club World Championship concludes. (The world tournament will push through from October 18 to the 23rd, with Fajardo joining six other homegrown athletes plus seven imports for the PSL All-Stars team.) As we wait for her decision—yikes!—we here and her UAAP fans will be unnecessarily stressing about not being able to see her wearing that bungisngis while still in her green “9” jersey again.
Read on the other things we will surely miss about the Kaf, who recently celebrated her 23rd birthday, once she graduates from the UAAP. Or, just all the things we just love about her. Consider this our tribute!
1. Her fun times with the team.
Well, seeing less of her on the Taft squad means lesser time with her teammates, right? Although she gets to be with Ara Galang, Mika Reyes, and Cyd Demecillo among others for F2 Logistics, Fajardo won’t have much time anymore bonding with the rest of the girls through their team building activities. Less of those Tatlong Bibe vids, and other goofs only the Lady Archers know how to execute with love and the laughs!
Sure, there was her camaraderie with her teammates. But we especially had a lot of that Fajardo and Demecillo love last year, after they won both indoor and beach volleyball events together. Although Demecillo has already graduated and would reunite with Fajardo for F2 Logistics, it just wouldn’t be the same anymore…
3. Her being cheesy.
We loved Fajardo how naturally friendly and optimistic she is, coming in as a leader to the team during the games. But we also loved her how she went all out doting everyone on the suqad. Check out her Instagram and Twitter where she regularly posts and speaks of her love to her La Salle teammates a.k.a. “bruh’s” and “mom’s!”
4. Her love for… pets.
You know how loving Fajardo is. Go to her Instagram and catch her shenanigans with her pets and any random animal she meets—just like the one where she played ball barefoot with a pet dog! You’d surely end up with a good laugh!
In the span of their playing years, Fajardo’s longtime friendship with Ateneo alumna Alyssa Valdez saw a beautiful story of friendship trumping rivalry. The two met as teammates back in UST, and despite the two parting ways in college only to play for competing teams, they still managed to be the closest of friends. We will definitely miss them playing against each other!
6. Her love for fashion.
It’s obvious from how she slides those wayfarers on or her choice of buttonfronts and footwear. We loved Fajardo for just being real from head to toe!
7. Her love for her family.
Again, family plays a big factor in Fajardo’s life, as she’s been away from her native Batangas home ever since she started with her volleyball career. Whether or not she goes on with her collegiate career after bagging two championship trophies, we will still look up to her for successfully juggling school and sports, and generally for being an excellent role model among the youth!
8. Her love for La Salle.
Duh. We know whatever decision she has made proved to be a struggle on her part, since it wasn’t just about herself or the people around her anymore. It was also about representing her Alma Mater, which gave her the best opportunities and experiences she’s ever grateful to have had!
9. Her smile.
We go back to that signature bungisngis. We’d surely long to see it once she decides to let UAAP go for a no-doubt bright future in the semipros!
