San Beda versus Arellano: A battle of hard court heartthrobs
Meet the best—and best-looking—of this season’s finalists. (Photo taken from Jalalon's Instagram account: @jalalon6)

Ssshhh, you might think, “Here we go again objectifying the athletes we cover!” But, we say back, It’s not their fault their fault they look good and have a mob of fans fanning over them for their style and suave! Truth 1: the #NCAA92 Finals has kept our adrenaline rushing with Beda and Arellano on a modern, first-time duel—one team, a league powerhouse hoping to reclaim a title after 11 years; the other, an underdog who’s ever-hungry for that first championship. Truth 2: Fandom doesn’t lie, why else would they be social media sensations as well? It's safe to say these two teams are loaded with star athletes poised to take over the PBA in the future!

With their game play and game face, these are the athletes who have fanned the flames of fandom (see what we did there?) throughout the NCAA season. Watch them as they make sure this finals series will be one to remember!

Dan Sara
It took a lot of years before this pivotal moment in his career, where a collegiate league title is one win away. The fun-loving Sara from Cagayan de Oro City actually played two UAAP playing years in La Salle, before joining the NCAA in 2012. He has since worked his way up; after Baser Amer, Art dela Cruz, and his other seniors graduated, the graduating player filled big shoes as the captain on Beda’s way to reestablish themselves as the champs!

If not busy subbing for Sara and scoring career-highs, Tongco keeps busy keeping fit, doing shoots under talent agency Virtual Playground, or going on misadventures with bae. Loyalty does pay for this Red Cub alumnus!

Meet “Redford White,” as what his teammates would sometimes call him in jest for his supposed resemblance with the deceased comedian. True, this former Lasallian might be a joker in real life, too, and maybe that’s how he won the heart of Abi Maraño. But he also proves a reliable player on the court, counting in his being a top scorer in Game 1!

Javee Mocon
Tall, dark, handsome, and a star player, no doubt. While Mocon has played humbly amidst his other brilliant, championship-hungry teammates, the former multi-decorated Red Cub still makes a force to be reckoned with!

This Fil-Am’s got that buzzer beater to back up his swag. Count on Mr. Fourth Quarter when Beda’s on the brink of a game, a shtick he most especially displayed in the season opener against archrivals from Letran.

Arellano Chiefs

Jiovanni Jalalon
Many are quickly becoming fans of the “Bus Driver,” so called for his being literally unstoppable on the court. With an inspiring story to boot (this Cagayan de Oro native wishes to realize realize his dad's ball dreams), there has since been no question on this ever-reliable guard and Mythical Team member landing a spot on the national team. Many are also predicting a brighter future for Jalalon in the pros, but not without an NCAA championship, of course!

Kent Salado
No bus driver will ever come whooshing without its “Dispatcher.” Salado, next to Jalalon, has proven himself an effective defensive player. When not on the court powering the Chief, this lucky guy stays inspired by going on with dates with bae. Sorry ladies!

Kenneth Zamora
The former Braves star and heartthrob is now a Chiefs rookie. He still plays the heartthrob card, though, as fans await his explosive moment very soon!

Zach Nicholls
We wouldn’t be surprised if this 6’2”-tall Vancouver-hailing now-senior makes it big in the PBA, like other noticeably good-looking half-breeds before him. Don’t, limit your idolizing to his looks, though. Nicholls, who says he’s taken—sorry ladies, is so focused in his sport he wishes to play in the pros someday!
