The FEU Cheering Squad’s second place finish last UAAP CDC didn’t entirely come as a surprise, knowing how the team from time to time has played the contender card next to history-enduring rivals UP and UST. With only one tournament title over time (Season 69), Morayta last claimed its podium place in 2012 through their jungle-themed routine. Still, this year’s results came as a sweet comeback for FEU, which awed audiences with their Broadway-inspired show. Behind FEU’s vengeance was team captain Carla Perez Dagohoy, who days after the competition is still in disbelief. “Hindi po makapaniwala, sobrang saya hanggang ngayon,” she could only muster. The 19 year-old Physical Education major is a story on her own, as a student-athlete on scholarship. The Negros native used to play gymnastics at the Palarong Pambansa when the FEU Cheering squad’s former coach recruited her for college. She had trouble adjusting at first since cheerleading was a team sport, “at hindi lang sarili mo ang iisipin mo kundi ang buong team.” Years after, though, the petite performer eventually ripened in age, skills, and leadership, priming her better to be captain. How did she steer her group towards a much-deserved championship? She tells us more here.
How was the training for the FEU Cheering Squad in preparation for UAAP CDC 2016?
“Hard, exciting, productive, and fun!”
What do you love about your team?
What makes FEU Cheering Squad different from other teams?
“Andun yung Pusong Tamaraw… hindi kami basta basta sumusuko at hindi kami nagpapatalo.”
Which squad do you think was the biggest competition last weekend?
How did you come up with the theme?
What’s next for the team?
“Mas mag-improve pa, mas maging united, mas maging matured, and everything will follow!”
