It isnít much of a surprise anymore when the teamís hero and muse find love at the sidelines. But itís still a story that very much tickles as it inspires. (Photos taken from Neypes' and Pablo's Instagram accounts: @kyleneypes16 and @irapablo16)

You might as well get lost in an arcade trying to join a conversation with Racal Tile Masters forward Kyle Neypes and his Alma Mater’s resident courtside reporter Ira Pablo. Fun, laughter, and that lighthearted feeling from all those jokes and banter easily fill the air finding yourself in their company, further clueing you in that they make one of the newest and hottest sports couples in the country. Recently, the two blue-and-gold-donning sports personalities even graced together a special feature inside the annual UAAP Magazine. Pablo even posted on Instagram the exact page showing them together: “The most special magazine feature I've done! I can't stop staring!”

How Neypes and Pablo found each other makes sense as he was a graduating member on her first year of reporting for NU. It’s been two basketball seasons since, with the former NU hotshot making himself useful at the PBA D-League and the UP Broadcast Communication student now taking on her last year of collegiate sportscasting. But the months in between have bore witness to how they’ve written an inspiring, court-originating romance so much so that they’re now business partners at Karats and Initials—a new online shop of personalized necklaces. Curious about the rest of their story? Neypes and Pablo tell all here!

Describe your first meeting.
Pablo: I was new and I wanted to do good sa UAAP as a courtside reporter, so I had to do all the asking about the games. Kyle had so many injuries nung Season 78 so there were times na siya lang tinatanong ko about his condition.
N: Isa lang injury ko, hindi madami!
P: I was at NU once a week. Madami siyang injury kasi paulit ulit. Pabalik balik yung sprain.

What was your first impression of each other?
N: Maalaga. Nag-alala agad sa injury ko.
P: Si Kyle, sobrang masungit. Itsura palang! Puro tattoo pa si Kyle kaya nakakatakot pa. Ha ha!
N: Hindi ba pwedeng seryoso lang? Nakakatakot? Multo pala ako. Tinatanong mo nga ako noon kung nag-a-ice ba ako.

When did you become close as friends?
P: Close naman kami nung Season 78 pero not on a personal level.
N: Inch by inch lang.
P: After Season 78 women’s volleyball.

And when did you think that there was something more?
P: When it was my birthday! He asked to make plans with me, so naisip ko na he wanted to have a date with me. Ha ha! He's super different from other guys kasi hindi siya pa-impress.
N: First time ko sya niyaya lumabas noon at pumayag naman.

How did you bond in your first days as a couple?
P: We used to bond as a team. Usually when the team ate together after practices, doon lahat ng kulitan. We first went out together na kaming dalawa lang when I celebrated my 21st birthday. Wala kaming "official date" kasi hindi pa official.

Would you say you complement each other? Or are you opposites?
P: Opposites kami sobra even in the littlest things! Si Kyle palaging late, ako I'm always early or on time. I guess doon siya natutong magmadali ng konti kasi I get mad when he's late. ‘Tapos ako naman, I learned how to take my time and stress out less on trivial things.

What’s the sweetest thing you’ve done for each other?
P: Ha ha! OMG! Nung birthday ni Kyle, after his practice with Racal, he was doing free throws. Lumingon lang sya kasi his teammates were shouting na. He had the biggest smile on his face pero the first thing he said was, "Bakit hindi ka nagtext?"
‘Tapos business na namin ngayon yung Karats and Initials.

How much do you guys hang out now compared to when you would see each other regularly like last year?

Name three things you love about the other.
P: First, simple things make Kyle happy. Like hearing his favorite songs on the radio, playing Clash of Clans, saying a corny joke, or spending time with his family. Second, mabilis magpakumbaba si Kyle. When he gets into misunderstandings with other people like his friends, he'll be the first person to fix it. Third, his singing talent! Magaling kumanta si Kyle dapat pinagpe-perform ‘to!
N: Number one, maalaga. Inuuna muna nya family members nya, kung okey ba sila at kung kumusta sila. Number two, matulungin. Last, mapagmahal.

Name three things you hate about the other.
P: First, I hate how he doubts himself sometimes when it comes to basketball. Second, I hate it when he tries to be serious pero deep inside alam mo naman na masaya sya. Third, I hate how ang bilis niya mahilo sa rides. After three rides sa Enchanted Kingdom, umuwi na kami kasi nahihilo na sya!
Ira, why do you say the UAAP Magazine shoot was your favorite?
P: Ha ha! Totoo yun! Kasi alam ko na hindi mahilig si Kyle sa mga photo shoots or any appearance so when I told him about it, dahan-dahan pa. I was fishing a bit because I really wanted us to do it. So, when he agreed, I was happy to have a magazine feature together!

This is cheesy but, Ira, you didn’t come from NU, but you have since loved like your home away from home. Was Kyle part of the reasons why?
P: Ha ha! Since I became their courtside reporter, NU na talaga ako. Without knowing it, I was already rooting for NU in every UAAP sport!

How do you support the other’s career?
P: We always talk about his performance after every game. I give my opinions tapos we discuss the game situations again. Win or lose, we make sure we eat out together after to share the good vibes or remove the bad vibes! Of course, I want him to play and make it to the pros. I will literally ugly-cry the day that happens pero my ultimate dream for Kyle is for him to build a life after basketball. Eventually, the game is gonna end so I want him to make sure that ball is not life.

What’s the best thing you’ve learned from the other so far?
P: Wear less makeup! May family and friends tell me I look better without it, pero nung si Kyle na nagsabi, saka palang ako naniwala! Less is more daw!

We see you guys spent the holidays together. How was it?
N: Noong Pasko, sabay kami nag-dinner sa bahay. ‘Tapos noong New Year naman, kasama ko sya with my family.
P: During Christmas, I had dinner with my family first, then later that night I had another dinner with Kyle. For New Year, I met Kyle's family for the first time and I had early dinner with them. I went back home to eat again, light sparklers with my sisters, and watch the fireworks with my family. Sobrang saya! It was the best Christmas and New Year I had!
