“Short but sweet trip,” the Lady Phenom Alyssa Valdez could only tweet after enjoying making the most out of her trip to the Philippines. The former UAAP star has just returned to Thailand, where she currently plays in the Thai League with 3BB Nakornont. Her main objective coming back to the Philippines was to try out for the national team anew, but she obviously had more after. Here’s a recap of our favorite athlete’s holiday!

On the 31st anniversary of EDSA, Valdez found herself in Davao along with a group of aspirants aiming for a spot on the national team. Valdez went on the last day of the tryouts, reuniting with Coach Francis Vicente who had recruited her and DLSU’s Kim Fajardo to play for UST in the junior league. If chosen, Valdez and the rest of will head to the Asian Women’s Senior Volleyball Championship and in the 29th Southeast Asian Games in August. “I really enjoyed being in Davao kasi may friends din ako dun. I’m really overwhelmed din sa support ng Davaoenos na nagpunta dun just to see the tryout,” she recalled her experience there. “And, of course, one very memorable na nangyari is nakita ko yung former coach ko, si Coach Francis (Vicente).”

Valdez flew to Davao with former teammate Ella de Jesus and former Lady Eagles student manager Synjin Reyes. A quick stopover for some durian and some laughs became inevitable for the three while there!

Valdez became the lucky charm of Ateneo as they went head to head with the feared UP Lady Maroons, cheering on as her former team gave their Katipunan neighbors their first loss of the season. She was spotted inside the San Juan Arena next to her former teammates de Jesus and Amy Ahomiro, probably reminiscing the good ol’ days in between each cheer.

Last February 27 became an iconic moment in local volleyball history as two of the biggest players of their generation appeared in pictures together. Clad in eye-catching red, Valdez and former DLSU rival Mika Reyes inked an endorsement together and broke the Internet with a photo of them happy and seemingly done with competitions past! Reyes even posted with the caption, “We may be rivals in the court but definitely not in the real world”—complete with a green heart and a blue heart as emojis, and the trending hashtaf #AnimOBF!

A little alone time for two of our greatest athletes also means gym time together. The two were spotted sweating it out—another formula why #KiefLy equals #relationshipgoals!

As we grow up, we realize its less important to have lots of friends, and more important to have real ones 💙

Valdez ended her brief trip on a simple note, with her beau Kiefer Ravena and her closest college friends aka #TeamBesh around her. As expected of good pals now living in different places only coming together once in a while, the reunion brought out the most bittersweet moments worded into the cheesiest captions. Sniff!
