The addiction of Caron Butler

Caron was such a Mountain Dew addict he used to drink two liters a day... except when Kobe Bryant was around. Tuff Juice didn't want the Mamba seeing him gulp such an unhealthy drink.
I have a confession to make: I love Mountain Dew.
Maybe its the sugar --- it has the highest sugar content among all popular sodas --- or whatever but if I choose to be unhealthy for a day, the Dew is my drink of choice.
I've been avoiding it lately but you can't exactly escape the sparkly green drink altogether, especially if your grandmother gives it to you for free or on a major discount everytime you visit her on her sari-sari store.
I refuse to call myself a Mountain Dew addict but the level just below that, that's me.
A self-admitted Mountain Dew addict though, is Caron Butler, who is in town for NBA Philippines.
When I found out about Tuff Juice's obsession with the Dew, he instantly became one of my 10 favorite players of all time. Why not? How often can you say that you share a random habit with a legitimate NBA player?

But now that he's a little older and retired from the game of basketball, Butler has mostly stayed away from the Dew.
"I'm staying away from Mountain Dew now but I was a Mountain Dew addict. I had issues, I had problems, and it took me a long, long time to get away from that," Butler told ABS-CBN Sports during his visit to the NBA Store in Trinoma Thursday.
"Stay away from so much soda, as you get older that stuff piles up and then you have a little thing right here called a gut," he added, pointing to his stomach.
While he's no longer a Mountain Dew addict, Butler's other obsession is still intact.
And that is chewing on straws. McDonald's straws to be exact.
He's desperately looking for some while he's in the Philippines.
"I still have that habit. Unfortunately, I haven't had my hand on some straws since I landed, it's only been a couple hours," he said Thursday afternoon. He landed at around lunch time.
"But I'm gonna stop at the nearest McDonald's and I'm gonna get some straws. The straw of choice is McDonald's so you'll see them in my mouth as I tour Manila," Butler added.
