Despite some terrible rain to start the day, the Balesin Adventure Trail Run largely went by without a hitch.
Over 100 runners participated in the 21K and 5K race categories Saturday, allowing them to explore the scenery around the exclusive island.
46-year-old Pampulo Dela Cruz Jr. came away with the fastest time in the 21K category, clocking in at two hours and 15 minutes.
If he didn't suffer cramps at the 15-kilometer mark, he says he would've made it in less than two hours. He also got lost for a little bit but it's all good in the end.
A member of the Balesin Fire Department and with actual marathon experience back in the day, Dela Cruz says trail running is way different from one's usual race course.
"Pag medyo pataas ka, syempre iba takbo mo, dahan-dahan. Tapos pag pababa, babawiin mo siya," he said.
In the 5K category, Stephen Apetrior took the best time, finishing the course in just under 30 minutes.
All finishers received gifts from sponsors with the 21K runners earning a medal. Also, all participants are eligible to receive more prizes via raffle.
