Hundreds of fans lined up at the Mall of Asia and at SM North EDSA Sunday for a charity event that was highlighted by the appearance of Ricci Rivero and stars from the world of Philippine sports.

Rita's Italian Ice, which has over 600 stores in the United States and five here in the country, partnered with Virtual Playground on a project entitled "A Scoop of Happiness".

More than 400 individuals lined up outside, reaching up to the intersection of Sunset Drive and Seaside Blvd just to get a glimpse of the De La Salle skipper and his brothers Prince and Rasheed.

The line even went to the rear of the huge mall.

Prior to the Rivero siblings' arrival, many fans lined up at the front of the frozen custard store where they were supposed to serve, with some of them arriving at the venue as early as 8 a.m.

Prior to the Rivero siblings' arrival, volleybelles Katrina Racelis of Mapua, Andi Felix of Adamson, St. Benilde's Chelsea Santillan and SEA Games swimming medalist Nikki Pamintuan, among others took the helm in serving up scoops of frozen custard.

Once Rivero, who was part of the UAAP Season 80 men's seniors basketball Mythical Five, already had a chance to meet his fans, some of them became emotional.

Rivero thanked the fans who went to the meet, and made sure they were doing this for a good cause. Every scoop bought from Rita's Frozen Custard set aside 25 pesos for Bantay Bata 163 for every sale of the 3 oz. hand-scooped dessert.

At the SM North EDSA branch, star volleybelles Mika Reyes and Carmela Tunay headlined the charity event there.

Ateneo athlete-siblings Vince and Kat Tolentino also joined the fun, scooping up for the the successful event.
