Filipino surfers Philmar Alipayo and John Mark Tokong are living up to their titles as hometown heroes in the 2018 Siargao Cloud 9 Surfing Cup.
Against international competition, 2020 Olympic hopefuls Alipayo and Tokong have advanced to the quarterfinals in home soil, and will take on surfers from Australia, Hawaii, Argentina, and Indonesia in the coming rounds.
Surfing is among five sports added to the 2020 games, and the Filipino surfers are making a good case for themselves to be included in the upcoming Olympiad in Tokyo.
