Maria Sharapova and the Manila Mavericks could not overcome the Micromax Indian Aces.
The Manila Mavericks fell short once again after bowing to the Micromax Indian Aces, 24 - 15, in Day Two of the Manila leg in the International Premier Tennis League on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Despite the supportive home crowd egging them on, the Mavericks' Andy Murray and Maria Sharapova failed to win their respective singles matches and doubles match.
Murray, currently ranked sixth in the world, fell to Frenchman Gael Monfils, 6-4.
The 2013 Wimbledon champion then teamed up with Sharapova, but the tandem were routed by the Aces' pair of Rowan Bopanna and Sania Mirza, 6-1.
The six foot two Sharapova, who is currently ranked second in the world, had one final chance to salvage a victory for the host country, but couldn't complete her rally as she lost to 2008 French Open champion Ana Ivanovic, 6-3.
In the opening match of the evening session, the Aces' Fabrice Santoro overwhelmed Daniel Nestor, 6-1.
The Mavericks though would bounce back in men's doubles as the duo of Filipino Treat Huey and Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga blanked Bopanna and Monfils, 6-0.
The Aces, who on Friday defeated the Singapore Slammers,28-22 , will now face the UAE Royals on Sunday in a a battle of two undefeated squads.
The Mavericks meanwhile will try to go for its first victory against the Singapore Slammers, who will be boosted by the entry of current world number one Serena Williams.
