NU started their UAAP women's lawn tennis title defense with a dominant win over UP last Sunday

The National University Lady Bulldogs began their quest for back to back lawn tennis titles last Sunday, January 11 with a 4-1 win over University of the Philippines.

1 victory over Nicole Eugenio in the second singles match.  1 win over Kim Sotelo.

In doubles action, NU’s Canja and Polito dominated State U’s Banez and Velicaria 6-2, 6-1, while the UP tandem of Lim and Ramos managed to take the final doubles set over NU’s Penados and Nagret, 6-1, 6-3. 

University of Santo Tomas also got off to a hot start, winning back-to-back games over the weekend. 

The Tigresses claimed their first win last Saturday, January 10 with a 4-1 win over UP. Nicole Eugenio took the first over Macy Gonzales, 6-3, 6-3 to give the Maroon’s an early lead, but the Espana-based tennisters took control the rest of the way. Kendies Malinis took the second doubles match over CJ Valdez, 6-3, 6-2, while Ingrid Gonzales shut out Monica Cortez, 6-0, 6-0. NU also claimed victories in the doubles matches as Santos and Milo defeated Lim and Ramos 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 and the tandem of Gitalan and Cortez bested the tandem of Pena and Banez, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

The following day, UST also claimed victory, sending De La Salle back 3-2. Tigress Kendies Malinis won the second singles match 6-3, 6-2 over Lady Archer Jenni Dizon, while the tandems of Santos/Milo and Caorte/Gitalan won their doubles matches to help UST come out victorious.

In other women’s lawn tennis action, De La Salle dominated collegiate rivals Ateneo 4-1. Rudas, Dizon, and De Guzman breezed through their singles matches, while the Lady Archers tandem of Arandia and Castillo were equally dominant with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ateneo’s Sampaton and Lagman. The Lady Eagles managed to take the final doubles set, thanks to a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 victory by the tandem of Hernandez and Olivares.
