2015 French Open Roundup: Sharapova, Federer, Berdych advance into third round

Maria Sharapova, Roger Federer, and Tomas Berdych all picked up Day Four wins at the Stade Roland Garros to advance into the third round of the 2015 French Open.

Women’s number two ranked Sharapova opened up the action at the Court Philippe Chatrier, making quick work of fellow Russian Vitalia Diatchenko, 6-3, 6-1, while men’s number five ranked Japan’s Kei Nishikori also made his way into the third round following a 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 win over Brazil’s Thomaz Bellucci.

Men’s Singles 2nd Round: Kei Nishikori def. Thomaz Bellucci (7–5, 6–4, 6–4)

Men’s Singles 2nd Round: Gael Monfils def. Diego Schartzman (4–6, 6–4, 4–6, 6–2, 6–3)

Women’s Singles 2nd Round: Carla Suarez Navarro def. Virginie Razzano (6–3, 1–0, ret.)

 

Over at the Court Suzanne Lengle, Swiss superstar and men’s number two ranked Roger Federer defeated Spain’s Marcel Granollers, 6–2, 7–6(7–1), 6–3. Recently drafted Philippine Mavericks member Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France also booked his way into the second round against Israel’s Dudi Sela, 6–4, 6–1, 6–1

Finally, over at Court 1, men’s number four ranked Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic defeated fellow countryman Radek Štěpánek, 6–3, 6–7(7–9), 6–3, 6–3.

Novak Djokovic still sits at the top of the men’s singles leaderboard with 12, 690 points, while Federer is at second with 9,145 points. Andy Murray, Berdych, and Nishikori round out the top five, while Rafael Nadal is just outside at sixth place.

In the women’s singles standing, Philippine Mavericks’ top draft pick Serena Williams is on top with 9,361 points, while Sharapova is at second with 5,840 points. Halep, who lost in the second round still sits at third, while Petra Kvitova and Caroline Wozniacki round out the women’s top five.
