2015 French Open: Tsonga ousts Nishikori, Warwinka drops Federer

The quarterfinals round of the 2015 French Open saw a couple of huge upsets in the men’s singles division, as 14th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, carrying the momentum from his big win over fourth seed Tomas Berdych in the fourth round to upset another top-seed in fifth seeded Kei Nishikori, while eighth seed Stan Warwinka sent second seed Roger Federer packing in straight sets.

Tsonga came out strong, taking the first two sets, but Nishikori bounced back to even things up. Tsonga closed out the final set, winning 6-3 to advance into the men’s singles semis.

Warwinka on the other hand, controlled the second seeded Federer from the start, taking the first two sets. Federer tried to keep things close in the final set, but the Swiss native ultimately took the final set and earning a trip to the semis.

Tsonga and Warwinka, both coming off huge upsets, will meet in the semifinals.

Day 11 will feature a highly-anticipated quarterfinals matchup between men’s singles number one seed Novak Djokovic and number six seed Rafael Nadal, while women’s singles number one Serena Williams takes on 17th seed Sara Errani.
