SO CLOSE. Fil-American Treat Huey and partner Max Mirnyi were one set away from making it to the Wimbledon Gentlemen's Doubles finals.
Close, but still no cigar for Fil-American tennister Treat Conrad Huey and partner Max Mirnyi of Belarus, as they fall to the French tandem of Pierre Huges-Herbert and Nicolas Mahut in five sets, 4-6, 6-3,77-63,4-6, 4-6 in the semifinals of the 2016 Wimbledon Gentlemen's Doubles tournament.
After dropping the first set, Huey and Mirnyi mounted a comeback to take sets two and three, but ultimately couldn't hold on, as Hughes-Herbert and Mahut took the last two sets to seal the win.
This was Huey's best finish in Wimbledon, and was just a set away from making the finals for the first time in his career. It was also the farthest that any Filipino has gone in the prestigious Grand Slam tournament.
It will be an all-French final as Huges-Herbert and Mahut meet countrymen Julien Benneteau and Eduard Roger-Vasselin, who dispatched Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram in the other semifinal matchup.
