Arthur Craig Patino of the Philippines prevailed over Japan's Taiyo Yamanaka, 6-1, 6-2, in semifinals of the Phinma PSC International Tennis Federation Juniors Circuit at the Manila Polo Club tennis court Saturday.
The 405th-world ranked Patino, who originally hails from Ormoc, qualified for the semifinals in a straight-set win over another Japanese Ryota Ishi, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals Friday.
The tournament organized by the ITF has produced some of the greatest talents in the sport, such as John McEnroe, Stefan Edenburg, Victoria Azarenka, and Roger Federer. Patino hopes to follow in their footsteps and succeed in the circuit.
To focus on his dreams, Patino left his native Leyte and searched for greener pastures in Cebu, before becoming a scholar for the Philippine Tennis Academy.
