Iggy Pantino just missed out on a tournament sweep.

The 16-year-old Filipino fell to Japan's Shunske Mitsui in straight sets, 3-6, 3-6, Sunday at the Manila Polo Club, losing the Boys Singles Final of the 2017 Phinma-PSC International Tennis Federation Juniors Circuit.

Things unraveled quickly for no. 2 Pantino as the younger Japanese broke his serve twice for a 4-0 lead in the first set.

Pantino, who hails from Ormoc but is now coming out of Cebu via the Philippine Tennis Academy, finally managed to hold serve to extend the set but the top-seeded Mitsui would nail a final break point for a 6-3 win.

The Filipino started off well in the second set, taking a 3-1 lead before he collapsed, losing five straight games.

"Sayang po pero the Japanese played really good, he was the better player today," Pantino told ABS-CBN Sports about his loss.

"I was quite sluggish and pressured sa first few games," he admitted.

Despite losing the singles final, Pantino had earlier won the boys doubles title with Michael Francis Eala.
