Pinay tennis prodigy Alex Eala is set to join the prestigious Roland Garros Junior World Tennis Championships this June in Paris.
The 13-year old Eala recently won the Les Petit 14 tournament in the same country, coming from behind and emerged victoriously over Linda Nozkova of the Czech Republic.
"I really wasn't expecting to win. When I first saw them, I knew a lot of the players. Based on experience they were really good because I had seen them before in other tournaments. They played really well. I was a bit nervous pero there was no harm in trying," Eala said in an interview with The Score.
As for the upcoming tournament, which is graded 'A', or the highest by the International Tennis Federation, Eala has to first get over the hump, at the French Open Juniors Tennis Qualifers starting May 21, also in Paris.
The proud parents, Mike and Rizza, whom the latter is a bronze medalist in swimming at the 13th Southeast Asian Games, vow to give all support to their daughter, and 17-year old Miko, who is also on the rise in the Asian tennis circuit.
"When the played the Philippine National Anthem doon sa arena, nakakaproud for us parents. Or for Alex as a player. You hear sa mga stories sa mga olympics, nakakatouch ang mga nangyari," the father recalled.
