Filipino netters march into action in soft tennis competition.
PALEMBANG --- Veteran campaigners Joseph Arcilla and Noelle Zoleta swing into action on Tuesday at the start of the 18th Asian Games soft tennis competitions at the Jakabaring Sport City courts here.
Both Arcilla and Zoleta are appearing in their third straight Asian Games, hoping to break the country’s medal drought since the sport made its debut in the 1994 edition held in Hiroshima, Japan.
Arcilla garnered a silver and two bronze medals while Zoleta a pair of bronzess last year in the 29th Malaysia Southeast Asian Games held in Kuala Lumpur.
“Arcilla and Zoleta are our veterans so we are banking on them to do well here,” noted assistant coach Michael Enriquez on the eve of the event on Monday. “The rest of our players are newcomers here.”
Head coach Jovy Mamawal, on the other hand, said that the draw won’t be known until the team manager late Monday.
