UST, NU in early share of the UAAP girls volleyball lead
University of Sto. Tomas clawed two straight victories to share the lead with defending champion National University.

Defending champion National University and its victim in last year’s finals University of Sto. Tomas shared the early lead in the 78th UAAP girls volleyball tournament over the weekend at the Adamson Gym.

Drawing a bye in the opener, the Lady Bullpups made an immediate impact on their bid to retain the crown in a back-to-back conquest.

NU defeated De La Salle-Zobel Junior Lady Spikers, 25-21, 19-25, 25-10, 25-13, last Saturday before cutting down the University of the East Junior Lady Warriors, 25-21, 16-25, 25-10, 25-20, the day after.

The Junior Tigresses clawed a straight set 25-18, 25-20, 25-17 victory over Adamson for their second win in as many games tied with the Junior Lady Bullpups atop the standings.

UE won against Far Eastern University, 25-20, 25-11, 25-15, last Saturday for a 2-1 record in third spot.

In other results, Adamson rolled past the University of the Philippines Integrated School, 25-18, 25-13, 25-14 last Saturday before FEU swept the same opponent on Sunday, 25-23, 25-6, 25-20.

DLSU-Z holds a 1-1 slate followed by FEU and Adamson with identical 1-2 mark while UPIS is winless in three outings.

In the boys division, UST sits on solo top spot with a 3-0 record after dismantling UPIS, 25-8, 25-22, 26-24, before dominating Ateneo de Manila, 25-22, 25-21, 25-16.

NU is just a win behind with a 2-0 mark highlighted by an upset when the Bullpups shocked the 12-peat seeking UE Junior Warriors, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-12.

FEU bounced back from an opening setback at the hands of NU with a twin kill against DLS-Z, 25-13, 31-29, 25-15, and UPIS, 25-9, 25-20, 25-16 while the Junior Warriors barged in the win column after hurdling the Junior Green Archers, 25-17, 25-22, 25-23.

FEU has a 2-1 record followed by UE (1-1) and Ateneo (1-1) while DLS-Z and UPIS are both winless in three games.
