ROAD BLOCK. Defending champions NU hope to hurdle their second obstacle this time around.
Games on Saturday at the MOA Arena
2:00 PM – Adamson vs Ateneo
4:00 PM – UE vs NU
National University’s first title defense in four decades got off to a rough start with a loss to open the 78th Season of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The Bulldogs seek to finally put one on the win column when they take on the University of the East Red Warriors on Saturday at the MOA Arena.
Tip-off is at 4:00 PM and all the action will be broadcast LIVE on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23 as well as streamed LIVE on sports.abs-cbn.com.
NU competed well in their first outing before just falling short in the endgame. The defending champions counted contributions from up and down the roster with Gelo Alolino and J-Jay Alejandro leading the way.
What proved to be the missing piece was a stronger output from Alfred Aroga who was slowed down by foul trouble and eventually fouled out. “I always tell the boys that all teams will be hungry to beat us so we have to be prepared mentally as well,” coach Eric Altamirano said.
Mental lapses also plagued UE in their season-opening defeat as team captain Chris Javier incurred a disqualifying foul right when the game was in the dying seconds. As such, Javier will have to serve a one-game suspension and the Warriors will have to turn even more to unproven youngsters like Paul Varilla and Edson Batiller.
