TAKING FLIGHT. Ateneo and the reigning MVP finally got their campaign off the ground.
Now there’s the bolstered Ateneo de Manila University everyone expected to see in the 78th Season of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament.
All of the Blue Eagles were firing on all cylinders, especially in the second half, to come away with a 24-point rout of the Adamson University Soaring Falcons, 84-60, on Saturday at the MOA Arena.
Ateneo allowed their young opponents to stay close in the first half until Ravena, Von Pessumal, and Aaron Black merged for 19 points in a huge third period. All in all, the Eagles buried their foes, 28-18, to take a 62-48 lead into the fourth.
The Falcons were unable to recover from that point and only tallied 12 points in the final frame compared allowing 22 on the other end. Ravena finished with 24 points while Pessumal finally found his stroke with 12 markers to his name.
The Ateneo bench outpaced their counterparts, 44-20, to thoroughly makeup for a season-opening loss where they went missing and failed to support the reigning MVP. “The last three years have been Kiefer-centric. Ang importante sa amin ngayon, may susunod na,” coach Bo Perasol said in his post-game conference.
Reinforcement Papi Sarr led the way for his team with 13 points for Adamson which suffered a second straight loss to start their campaign.
