NU sets pace in UAAP high school volleyball
National University preserved its clean record after collecting two more victories over the weekend in the 78th UAAP girls volleyball tournament.

Defending champion National University kept its lofty spot in the 78th UAAP girls volleyball tournament by racking up two more victories over the weekend including one against top rival University of Sto. Tomas.

The Lady Bullpups swept the University of the Philippines Integrated School, 25-20, 25-12, 25-12, before outlasting the Junior Tigresses in a come-from-behind, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23, win Sunday in a rematch of last year’s championship at the Adamson Gym.

NU holds a shiny 4-0 win-loss record on solo top spot followed by UST (3-1), which had a winning streak going after taming the Far Eastern University Junior Lady Tamaraws, 25-12, 25-18, 25-18, last Saturday before falling prey to the Lady Bullpups.

In other results, De La Salle-Zobel Junior Lady Spikers picked twin triumphs to tie UST at 3-1, winning against University of the East Junior Lady Warriors, 25-23, 21-25, 18-25, 25-16, 15-11, and UPIS, 25-13, 25-9, 25-11.

FEU bounced back from its loss to UST by goring Adamson University, 25-19, 25-22, 19-25, 15-25, 15-8, for a 2-3 card.

UE slid to a 2-2 record ahead of Adamson (1-3) while UPIS is winless in five games.

NU is also making waves in the boys division as the Bullpups barked their way to a perfect 4-0 card.

The Bullpups swept DLS-Z, 25-18, 29-27, 25-19 before brushing off UPIS, 25-5, 25-13, 25-12.

FEU also had a productive weekend cruising past Ateneo De Manila, 25-12, 25-15, 25-15, before putting a dent on UST’s erstwhile flawless record, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23, for a 4-1 slate.

Defending champion UE improved its record to 3-1 by trashing UPIS, 25-11, 25-5, 25-10 and Ateneo, 25-20, 25-18, 25-13.

UE is tied with UST ahead of Ateneo (1-3), DLS-Z (0-4) and UPIS (0-5).
