BATTLE FOR FIRST. FEU and UP have a chance to match UST and Ateneo atop the leaderboard.
Games on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum
2:00 PM – Adamson vs DLSU
4:00 PM – UP vs FEU
With no more unbeaten teams in the 78th Season of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament, a share of first place is suddenly a possibility for both 2-1 Far Eastern University and University of the Philippines.
The Fighting Maroons aim to show they have more surprises in store while the Tamaraws aim to reinforce their contention even more on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
The battle between the expected favorites and the unexpected darlings begins at 4:00 PM and will be broadcast LIVE on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23 as well as streamed LIVE on sports.abs-cbn.com.
The Tamaraws boast emphatic victories against powerhouses Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University sandwiching their only loss thus far in the season. When a core of Mac Belo, Mike Tolomia, and RR Pogoy are on their games, the Morayta-based squad’s charge is pretty tough to stop.
More than his stars, however, coach Nash Racela wants to see more production from his other guys. “We know what we’re gonna get from them (Belo, Tolomia, and Pogoy) so we just need the others to help them," he said.
The Maroons have a team composed of several “other guys” who have coalesced into one unit under first-year head coach Rensy Bajar’s watch. State U has no stars, but what it has is an entire lineup that battles all throughout.
Bajar promised a more determined UP squad that has learned from it’s first loss of the season following a 2-0 start. “We don’t dwell on the loss and we just learn from our mistakes,” he said.
