STOPPING THE SKID. The re-emergence of Thomas Torres played a huge role in DLSU's first win since their season-opener.

De La Salle University is finally back on the winning track in the 78th Season of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The Green Archers looked like their uninspired selves right after tip-off on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum before unleashing a vicious 23-6 run that gave them the advantage they held en route to a 88-71 pasting of the Adamson University Falcons.

The young Adamson squad raced to a 6-1 start until Jeron Teng and company imposed their will via a vicious run that gave DLSU a 24-12 lead after the first quarter.

Still, the feisty Falcons kept fighting and decreased the deficit to as little as 70-81 with 1:19 remaining, but the Archers ended the game with a 7-1 burst to cement their second win in four games.

Teng led the scoring for DLSU with 18 points, but it was the re-emergence of Thomas Torres that coach Juno Sauler said was key. “Thomas played great not just on offense, but also on his defense on (Adamson’s) top-scorer Joseph Nalos,” he said.

Indeed, Nalos was held to only 10 points and the Falcons were fronted by Papi Sarr’s 18 markers. The young Adamson squad remained winless in four games.
