Ravena swoops in for Player of the Week honors
BLUE EAGLE KING. Kiefer Ravena was undoubtedly the reason Ateneo was 2-0 in the last week.

ON his final season, Kiefer Ravena is a man on a mission.

And the Ateneo star typified it last week when he towed the Blue Eagles to thrilling back-to-back victories that gave them a share of first place in the UAAP Season 78 men's basketball tournament.

“We stayed positive,” said Ravena, who bagged the ACCEL Quantum/3XVI-UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week honor.

Ateneo joined University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University on top with a 3-1 record, proving that the Blue Eagles have fully recovered from a disappointing 24-point season-opening loss to the Tamaraws.

“We know it was too early to be down,” said Ravena. “We took it as a challenge.”

Ravena displayed his clutch form when the Blue Eagles outlasted National University in a double overtime classic, 74-70, last Wednesday.

"I don’t think we could have won without the heroics of Kiefer twice," said Ateneo coach Bo Perasol after the Blue Eagles won over the defending champions for the first time in three seasons.
Ravena hit a step-back three-pointer with 5.3 seconds left in regulation to send the game into extra session at 57-57, before bailing out the Blue Eagles a second time by scoring on a crucial drive for a 62-62 standoff that forced a second extension.

The reigning MVP finished with 21 points, seven rebounds and two assists against the Bulldogs.
In Ateneo’s 77-72 win against University of the East last Saturday, Ravena was clutch again as he buried a pull-up jumper to give the Blue Eagles a 75-70 cushion, with 15.1 seconds remaining.

Ravena scored 15 points and wound up just a rebound and an assist shy of completing his first collegiate triple-double.

Ravena, who averaged 21.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, five assists and two steals in four games, edged out UE’s Bonbon Batiller and FEU’s Raymar Jose for the weekly citation given by sports scribes from national dailies and online portals.
