BUILDING MOMENTUM. NU is hoping for a winning streak after just recently snapping a three-game losing skid.
Games on Wednesday at the MOA Arena
2:00 PM – FEU vs UE
4:00 PM – NU vs Adamson
Though it took them four tries, the fact is that defending champion National University is finally on the win column in the UAAP 78 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Now armed with a win, the Bulldogs are seeking to snare a winning streak when they take on an Adamson University side still searching for victory number one on Wednesday at the MOA Arena.
The battle between the two bottom teams begins at 4:00 PM and will be broadcast LIVE on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23 as well as streamed LIVE on sports.abs-cbn.com.
Following three rallies in a row that fell short, the Bulldogs were finally able to claim their first win thanks to the heroics of Alfred Aroga. While it was the Cameroonian’s game-winner that grabbed all the headlines, it should be noted that his season-best output of 19 points and 12 rebounds were actually the difference between NU’s one win and three losses.
“Alfred was sick early in the season, but now he’s okay and we’re hoping this continues,” coach Eric Altamirano said. An even more comforting thought for the defending champions is that Gelo Alolino only scored two points and yet they came away with a win.
In terms of scoring, the Falcons do not have a go-to-guy who delivers certain numbers game in and game out. What the very young squad has is a balanced attack that calls on different players from Joseph Nalos to Jaydee Tungcab to help keep them competitive – even though their efforts have yet to produce a win after four games.
Adamson’s attempt at victory number one has been made even more difficult after the one-game suspension of head coach Mike Fermin. Still, Fermin exclaimed that the system is there even if he isn’t as he said, “Mas mabuti na ako kesa yung players. Pareho pa rin naman gagawin nila.”
