VIEW FROM THE TOP. A win from either Ateneo or UST will raise them to a share of the top of the leaderboard.
Games on Saturday at the MOA Arena
2:00 PM – UP vs NU
4:00 PM – Ateneo vs UST
Ateneo de Manila University and University of Sto. Tomas both head into Saturday with a 3-1 slate, but only one between them will leave the MOA Arena with a share of the top of the leaderboard.
The Blue Eagles and the Growling Tigers test each other’s contention in the UAAP 78 Men’s Basketball Tournament beginning at 4:00 PM. All of the action will be broadcast LIVE on ABS-CBN Sport+Action Channel 23 as well as streamed LIVE on sports.abs-cbn.com
While Kiefer Ravena has done Kiefer Ravena things from the get-go, it has been the resurgence of Von Pessumal along with their prized prospects’ emergence that has Ateneo flying high. With Matt Nieto, Jerie Pingoy, and Hubert Cani forming a talented pointman rotation and Chibueze Ikeh anchoring the middle, the Eagles are more well-rounded than ever.
Still, coach Bo Perasol is seeking further improvement from his young squad. “Whatever it is that we can do, we are trying to push it right now. I believe we can still do better,” he said.
Doing better is already what UST has done as they have already exceeded projections of where they would be this early in the season. The veteran core of Kevin Ferrer, Ed Daquioag, and Karim Abdul have more than proven their stature in leading their team back to relevance.
The matchup will be the Tigers’ first opportunity to show their character as they are coming off their first loss of the season at the hands of National University. Challenging his wards, coach Bong Dela Cruz said, “Dito natin makikita kung paano kami makaka-bounce back.”
