FAMILY COMES FIRST. Despite illness, Kevin Ferrer was the driving force behind UST's amazing comeback against Ateneo.
Kevin Ferrer could not sleep last night and when he woke up earlier today, he felt like a flu was coming.
It was so bad in fact, that he asked his coach if he could come off the bench against the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
In the end, however, he played and had his own version of Michael Jordan's "flu game." Ferrer scored a game-high 27 points to lead a massive UST comeback in the fourth quarter as the Tigers beat Ateneo, 68-58.
Espana's all-around forward scored 11 of his total in the last 10 minutes where the Blue Eagles only managed six points as a team. "Ni-ride ko lang [shooting]. Ayoko naman na sa akin lahat. Kailangan share the ball pa rin. Basta pinaubaya ko na lang kay God na bigyan ako ng strength. Siya na bahala basta gagawin ko lang kung ano kaya ko," Ferrer told ABS-CBN Sports.
The graduating senior added that missing the Ateneo game was not an option because he didn't want to disappoint his family - yes, not his team, but his family. "Kailangan maglaro, kahit ano [mangyari]. Hindi ko naman kayang pabayaan yung family ko. Basta laro lang, last year ko na din eh sayang yung one game," Ferrer said.
Thanks to his heroics, the Tigers at 4-1 regain a share of the lead with idle FEU.
