WE CAN DO THIS TOO. Kiefer Ravena and Von Pessumal showed their defensive talents in teaming up to hold Jett Manuel scoreless.
Coming out of a heartbreaking come-from-behind defeat that saw them only combine for three points in the final frame, Kiefer Ravena and Von Pessumal were expected to come out firing the next time they took the floor.
Instead, what everyone witnessed on Wednesday at the MOA Arena was Ravena and Pessumal only scoring 11 apiece. The reigning MVP and his wingman ended with 13 and 19 points the last time around.
While they didn’t light up the scoreboard, it was at the other end where Ravena and Pessumal clearly expended their energy. Head coach Bo Perasol shared that was all part of their gameplan against the University of the Philippines as he said, “We planned on defending their attackers.”
The attacker Perasol was most worried about was Jett Manuel and Ravena and Pessumal made it a point to stay in front of him for the entirety of the 18 minutes he was on the floor. With the two taking turns hounding him, the Fighting Maroons’ leading scorer finished scoreless – missing all seven of his shots while also committing two turnovers.
Talking about the job they did on Manuel, “We don’t want a scorer to get his groove. Malaking bagay that Jett wasn’t part of their game today.”
