SIGHTS ON HISTORY. National University hopes to join University of Sto. Tomas and University of the Philippines as the only schools with at least three championships in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition.
The University of Sto. Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe and the University of the Philippines Pep Squad may be tied for the most championships with eight in total, but they aren’t the favorites in the 2015 UAAP Cheerdance Competition.
That honor belongs to new powerhouse National University Pep Squad who are looking for a third consecutive championship on Saturday at the MOA Arena.
The most awaited 2015 UAAP CDC will be on full display LIVE starting at 2:00 PM only on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23 as well as sports.abs-cbn.com.
After dominating last year’s competition with a final score of 677.5, almost 20 points better than their runners-up, all eyes will be on how NU would top themselves.
Another winning routine will complete the Sampaloc-based squad’s rise from the cellar and into elite territory. Another victory to add to the ones back in 2013 and 2014 will make NU only the third school in the 20-year history of the competition to take home three titles – the other two schools being UST and UP.
However, NU’s back-to-back championships have only made the old guard more determined to reclaim their throne. In particular, the UP Pep Squad have said they can no longer be satisfied with a third straight bridesmaid finish and have vowed to seal the deal right from the start of the competition.
The Diliman-based squad is set to take the stage first followed by the De La Salle University Animo Squad and the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Babble Battalion.
The two-time defending champions perform fourth and then next come the University of the East Red Squad, the Adamson Pep Squad, and the Far Eastern University Cheering Squad. The UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe close the competition.
