It’s about that time again when the two biggest rivals in collegiate sports go head to head.
If you’re a collegiate sports fan, rivalry between Ateneo and De La Salle is always something to look forward to. It’s that time of year when the greens and the blues get louder.
Kiefer Ravena and Von Pessumal have been part of this rivalry for the last five years or so, at the biggest stage of them all, the UAAP. For these two graduating stars, Season 78 could be the last time that they enter the floor for the most emotionally charged games in the collegiate level.
While they’re still here, however, ABS-CBN caught up with the two Blue Eagles to ask them a couple of things about the country’s most competitive rivalry.
What makes the Ateneo-De La Salle rivary as big as it is?
Von Pessumal: There's nothing left to say but it's Ateneo La Salle. There's nothing like it. Especially for me, since I've been Ateneo since grade school.
You’re down to your last few Ateneo-De La Salle, games, how are you feeling about it?
Kiefer Ravena: Mixed, pero you know, you have to treat it like it’s any other game. We can’t be too complacent and too into the crowd.
What is your most memorable Ateneo-De La Salle moment?
KR: The crowd, the crowd, just the atmosphere of being in an Ateneo-La Salle game. Every game is really different, it’s something na talagang you look forward to every season, it’s something na mami-miss ko din talaga.
Do you remember your first Ateneo-De La Salle game?
VP: It was my rookie year, I was only sent in for 10 seconds, but I was like, "What is happening?" We won that game thanks to Greg Slaughter.
KR: Yeah, my rookie year, I came off a 0-point game, I started the game with a 22-point half. It’s something na hindi ko din makakalimutan, pero it’s something na you have to keep with as inspiration.
