TOP SPOT. UST has a golden opportunity to close out the first round atop the leaderboard.
Games on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum
2:00 PM – UE vs UST
4:00 PM – NU-FEU
Considered as a darkhorse right before the start of the 78th Season of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament, University of Sto. Tomas has a good chance of ending the first round at the top of the standings.
It won’t come easy, however, as the Growling Tigers will have to go through a University of the East side desperate to get back on the right track on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Tip-off is set at 2:00 PM and all of the action will be broadcast LIVE on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23 and streamed LIVE on sports.abs-cbn.com.
UST’s veteran core has carried them to a 5-1 record and another win ensures they enter the second round ahead of the pack – even if Far Eastern University matches them later in the day, UST will still be first by virtue of their win against FEU.
Ed Daquioag got off to a hot start, Kevin Ferrer has found his touch, and even Karim Abdul is working his way back to his old self and the Growling Tigers are riding a two-game winning streak.
Things have been the opposite of rosy for the Red Warriors who have dropped all of their last three games. Inexperience has plagued Derrick Pumaren’s rookie-laden group as they have competed with their opponents only to fall behind in the endgame.
Still, UE has all the tools to pull off an upset especially if emerging top gun Edson Batiller rediscovers his form and veteran Chris Javier provides much-needed leadership.
