FULL SUPPORT. Ateneo president Jett Villarin affirmed that head coach Bo Perasol still has full support of the school administration and the team management.
Less than a week after his supposed replacement shot down speculations, the seat of Bo Perasol just got a lot cooler after he was given full backing by the Ateneo de Manila University president himself.
“In view of the recent rumors regarding the head coach position of the Blue Eagles, we would like to affirm that Bo Perasol remains the head coach of the Blue Eagles with the full support of the Ateneo and team management,” Fr. Jett Villarin said in a statement on Friday.
Perasol has come under fire after the young yet loaded Blue Eagles lost their rivalry game to De La Salle University to drop to 4-3 after the first round. The embattled coach failed to guide the Katipunan-based team to the Final Four in his debut season in 2013 and then saw his team get booted out as the top-seed in 2014.
Still, the Ateneo president said they remain confident that both their players and coaches have learned from their struggles. “We have voiced our concerns about our performance in the first round. We have noted and learned from our mistakes,” he said.
He then continued, “I know we will continue to improve in the second round.”
Villarin then urged the Katipunan community to keep throwing all their support behind the Eagles. “I request all your loyal and unwavering support for our athletes and coaches who have been working hard for our alma mater,” he said.
