WELCOME TO THE CLUB. Jeron Teng had some much-welcome help from DLSU's other guys.
With University of the East mounting their usual rally late on Wednesday at The Big Dome, it wasn’t Jeron Teng who came to the rescue for De La Salle University.
Larry Muyang, Prince Rivero, and Josh Torralba merged for all but two points in a 9-0 rush that powered the Green Archers through the Red Warriors, 72-64, for their first win in the second round of the UAAP 78 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Teng and Thomas Torres keyed an 18-2 run that gave DLSU a 41-30 lead at the half. Coming back onto the floor from the dugout, however, Chris Javier waxed hot and brought the Warriors to as close as four points several times, the last being 58-62 inside the last five minutes.
It was at that point that Teng hit two free throws and was complimented by seven straight from the other guys to re-establish a 71-58 advantage the Archers took until the final buzzer. “It was a hard-fought game, but we pulled through,” coach Juno Sauler said in his post-game conference.
The King Archer ended with 21 points while Torres, Muyang, Rivero, and Torralba added a combined 40 markers for their fifth win in nine games.
Chris Javier and Emil Palma had 14 points apiece to front the effort for UE which dropped to 3-6 in the season.
