Tigers back at first, send Bulldogs reeling
DIFFERENT ENDING. UST got right back at the only team who defeated them in the season.

On Saturday at the MOA Arena, Karim Abdul made good on his promise that rival Alfred Aroga will not have another Michael Jordan-esque game-winner.

University of Sto. Tomas’ Abdul kept National University’s Aroga on lockdown in the endgame and the Growling Tigers prevailed over the Bulldogs, 62-57, to move back into a share of first-place in the UAAP 78 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The Tigers managed a slight lead for majority of the game until NU crept to 57-58 with 1:48 remaining courtesy of Gelo Alolino’s jumper. Ed Daquioag came right back with his own short stab to give UST another three-point edge.

The Bulldogs then tried to force the ball into Aroga, but the Cameroonian was unable to get any shot off with Abdul all over him. The Tigers’ own center from Cameroon then sealed the deal with two free throws as NU’s outside shots failed to connect.

Abdul and Kevin Ferrer ended with 13 points apiece while Daquioag had 10 points as UST leaned on their old reliables anew for their eighth win in nine games.

The Bulldogs dropped to a dangerous 3-6 standing despite the best efforts of Alolino who scored 20 markers.
