Ateneo suspends Apacible for rest of second round
NOT SO PERFECT? Early in the season, John Apacible was nicknamed "Mr. Perfect" for not missing any of his field goal attempts.

Just a day after expressing that they will act on an incident involving one of their student-athletes “appropriately and swiftly,” Ateneo de Manila University has suspended erring Blue Eagle John Apacible for the rest of the second round.

Last Sunday, Apacible was caught on camera apparently drunk and making a scene along Timog Avenue in Quezon City. The very next day, Ateneo released a statement confirming that it was their student-athlete involved in the incident.

“It has come to our attention that John Apacible behaved in an unacceptable manner during an early Sunday morning encounter. John deeply regrets his reprehensible behavior and apologizes to all parties concerned,” the statement read.

Asked what sanctions they have decided upon, team manager Epok Quimpo confirmed that they will be disciplining their 19-year-old forward for the remainder of the elimination round.

In the report from Top Gear that went viral, the Blue Eagle was identified by eyewitnesses as the allegedly drunk driver who got into it with the person taking the video, a certain Yan Bote.

The video shows Apacible’s vehicle apparently having hit Yan Bote’s and the latter pointing at the former to have caused the accident. Apacible was then heard saying expletives and challenging Yan Bote to a fight all while holding up a vanity plate with “COUNCILOR” on it.

ABS-CBN Sports tried to get the reaction of Apacible, but he is yet to respond as of press time.
