WHEN ALL FALLS DOWN. Joseph Nalos is repeatedly apologizing to Vince Tolentino for the unintentional takedown he committed.
The UAAP has levied a one-game suspension on Adamson University’s Joseph Nalos due to the disqualifying foul he incurred in a matchup with Ateneo de Manila University last Saturday.
In the third quarter of that contest with the Soaring Falcons in need of a defensive stop, Nalos jumped up to try and block the attempt of Vince Tolentino and, as he was landing,
also dragged down the Blue Eagle by the face. Coming to the defense of his teammate, Kiefer Ravena then rushed right at Nalos and pushed him away from Tolentino.
Fortunately, things did not escalate further as officials immediately took control of the situation. Ravena incurred an unsportsmanlike foul while Nalos was slapped with a disqualifying foul for his actions.
As per league rules, a player who is thrown out of a game is automatically suspended in his team’s next assignment. Commissioner Rebo Saquisag confirmed the development to ABS-CBN Sports.
Reacting to the disciplinary action, Nalos told said, “Nirerespeto ko yung desisyon kasi alam ko naman na mali talaga yung (ginawa ko).”
He was quick to add, however, “Pero gusto ko lang linawin na wala talaga akong intensyong mangyari yun. Nalagay lang talaga ako sa alanganin kaya nagawa ko yun.”
The Falcon then went on to repeatedly express his sincere apologies both to Tolentino and the Ateneo community. “Gusto kong mag-sorry sa kanya at sa Ateneo,” he said.
For his part, Blue Eagles captain Ravena said he believed that it wasn’t Nalos’ intention to hurt anybody. “Instinct lang din siguro na nung palaglag na siya, may makapitan siya. Malas lang na hindi pwede sa basketball yung nangyari,” he told ABS-CBN Sports.
