Tolentino breaks out as Ateneo gets back at UST
NO DISTRACTIONS, NO COMEBACKS. Arvin Tolentino and the Blue Eagles set aside off-court issues and prevent another UST rally.

In the middle of yet another UST storm, the Blue Eagles learned their lesson and made sure the Growling Tigers won't add another completed comeback to their otherwise impressive season.

Arvin Tolentino caught fire from deep to lead Ateneo to an 80-74 wire-to-wire victory over UST in the second round of UAAP Season 78 at the Araneta Coliseum Wednesday.

Playing extended minutes, Tolentino buried three treys in the fourth quarter to finish with 20 points, all while playing terrific defense against Kevin Ferrer who wound up with only one field goal, a meaningless bucket to beat the buzzer.

The Tigers managed to get close, 50-53, after a booming Kent Lao triple capped an 18-4 run before Tolentino and Von Pessumal buried some timely jumpers to keep the Blue Eagles ahead.

"It's a very big win for us. It's kinda traumatic, there were moments in the game that personally I thought is this a second run for them [UST]," head coach Bo Perasol said. "We just agreed that we could match up well with UST. We needed some maturity and I think we were able to get that a little bit."

Ateneo built a commanding 17-point lead in the third, 49-32, after a Pessumal three before the Tigers made their run. He finished with 16 points.

There was a slight scare for the Blue Eagles when Kiefer Ravena went down in the fourth quarter after stepping on a teammate's foot. He came back a little later to bank a layup to give Ateneo a 10-point lead with 1:25 to go.

Ed Daquioag led the Tigers with 19 points and 9 rebounds while Marvin Lee added 15.
