Defense comes first for Arvin Tolentino

ACE DEFENDER. Arvin Tolentino made life miserable for Kevin Ferrer.
Arvin Tolentino chose the perfect time to announce his presence in UAAP Season 78.
In an otherwise disappointing follow-up after taking Rookie of the Year honors last year, Tolentino played the biggest role in Ateneo's 80-74 second round win over the UST Growling Tigers last Wednesday.
Tolentino tied his UAAP career-high of 20 points on 70 percent shooting from the field as the Blue Eagles improved to 6-4. "What a way for Arvin to get out his slump. I can see in his eyes that he was really confident," head coach Bo Perasol said.
For his part, Tolentino said that his effort was more focused on defense, adding that  offense came in second. "Coming into this game ang nasa isip ko is to defend - defend Kevin Ferrer," Tolentino said. "On offense sinasabi ko lang is to set the screen and grab the rebounds. Masaya naman ako at naka-contribute."
His post-game words were nothing but the truth as the talented forward harassed Ferrer the whole game, limiting UST' star scorer to only 13 points on one field goal that came in a buzzer-beater that meant nothing to the game's outcome.
And Perasol couldn't be happier seeing Tolentino shut down an opponent. "Lagi ko naman sinasabi sa kanya kapag may bola habulin ni Arvin, pag walang bola mabagal. Ngayon kahit walang bola si Kevin he was able to deny him."
