BACK ON TOP. Kevin Ferrer saw to it that UST had a twice-to-beat advantage for the Final Four.

On the outside looking in during last year’s playoffs, Kevin Ferrer made sure that University of Sto. Tomas was finishing top two after the elimination round in the 78th Season of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Ferrer had every single point in a 9-0 run that boosted the Growling Tigers way past the Adamson University Falcons all the way to a wire-to-wire 78-63 victory on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.

UST took control right from tip-off until the Falcons mounted some sort of rally and trimmed their deficit to 33-40 early in the third. It was at that point that Ferrer hit back-to-back treys followed by three free throws to build a 49-33 advantage for the Tigers.

The King Tiger then scored seven more points in the fourth to push UST into finishing the elimination round with an 11-3 slate. Ferrer totaled 25 points to go along with 10 rebounds while Louie Vigil and Ed Daquioag contributed a combined 26 markers.

The Espana-based squad is assured of a twice-to-beat advantage and also has a chance of clinching the top-seed if Far Eastern University drops one of their last two assignments. A satisfied coach Bong Dela Cruz said in his post-game interview, “Pinaghirapan namin to. Gustong-gusto namin makuha to.”

Papi Sarr turned in another double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds as the Falcons ended the season with a 3-11 record.
