TAKING ADVANTAGE. Aljun Melecio and DLSZ put their 'palipas trapik' time to good use.

As the 2015 APEC Conference rolls along, the arrival of US President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping has only tightened just about everything in the country.

The south of the metro has transformed into a virtual parking lot with the situation at the three major roads leading there – South Luzon Expressway, Coastal Road, and Airport Road – always tagged with heavy traffic.

That is exactly the reason why long after they wrapped up their schedule for the day, Tuesday with a win, De La Salle Zobel was still seen inside the San Juan Arena. “No choice. Palipas muna talaga ng traffic,” main man Aljun Melecio told ABS-CBN Sports.

As luck would have it, the remaining matchup they got to watch involved Nazareth School of National University had the same 2-0 standing as them. And so, before they pushed through with their long journey back home to Alabang, the Junior Archers first got to know the squad they will have to fight to get to solo first on Saturday.

As Melecio told said, “Kelangan din namin talaga mag-scout.”

Getting a good look at what he will be up against became much more essential for Melecio after he failed to find the form that led to his 42-point outburst in the season opener against defending champion Ateneo de Manila High School.

Against an admittedly less formidable University of the Philippines Integrated School, the senior gunslinger still wound up with 26 points, but muffed on 16 of his 25 attempts. The good news is he also collected seven assists, six rebounds, and five steals while only turning the ball over thrice.

Asked about his numbers, quite a step down from the season opener, Melecio said, “Ang sama talaga. Pangit gising kanina.” In an earlier interview, he jokingly credited his 42-point outburst to “magandang gising.”
