Melecio’s Jr. Archers, Baltazar’s Bullpups dispute solo 1st
RIGHT FROM THE START. Two of Aljun Melecio and DLSZ' s first three games come against defending champion Ateneo and runner-up NU.

Games on Saturday at the Blue Eagle Gym

9:00 AM – UST vs UPIS

11:00 AM – Adamson vs Ateneo

1:00 PM – DLSZ vs NU

3:00 PM – FEU-Diliman vs UE

As expected, De La Salle Zobel and Nazareth School of National University are right up there at the top of the leaderboard in the 78th Season of the UAAP Juniors Basketball Tournament.

Both are eyeing an extended stay there, but only one will remain perfect and ultimately solo first when the Junior Archers tussle with the Bullpups on Saturday at the Blue Eagle Gym.

The battle for first is scheduled at 1:00 PM.

Following an emphatic win against defending champions and archrivals Ateneo de Manila High School, the Junior Archers needed every bit of effort from Aljun Melecio and company to ward off fighting University of the Philippines Integrated School. Although he’s averaging 34 points through two games, Melecio wants to see more of the all-around effort his teammates put out the last time around.

The schedule has been kind thus far to the Bullpups as their own 2-0 start came against Adamson High School and University of Sto. Tomas High School – both far from favorites in the tournament. That cannot discount, however, the promise shown by Justine Baltazar and John Lloyd Clemente who have readily taken the leadership mantle.

Meanwhile, the Blue Eaglets and the Baby Falcons dispute win number two at 11:00 AM. Jolo Mendoza quickly put an uninspiring season-debut behind him and poured in a career-best 34 points to get Ateneo on the win column in their most recent outing.

Bidding for an upset is an Adamson side which is still searching for a go-to-guy in the mold of Jaydee Tungcab, but is nonetheless equipped with much talent.

The Battle of the Blue Birds commences right after the Tiger Cubs target a second victory of their own against the still winless Junior Maroons at 9:00 AM.

In the day’s other game at 3:00 PM, 1-1 Far Eastern University-Diliman takes on 0-2 University of the East High School.
