UPIS loses by default after ‘miscommunication’ on schedule
RARE TO SEE. UPIS lost by default after failing to show up on time for their morning matchup against UST.

University of the Philippines was raring to get their first win in the UAAP 78 Juniors Basketball Tournament on Saturday.

Before they could even start to do so, however, they already lost.
The Junior Maroons were unable to show up for their 9:00 AM tip-off against University of Sto. Tomas High School and were thus defeated by default. As it turns out, the Diliman-based squad were unaware about the scheduling change.

Originally, the UPIS-UST matchup was scheduled at 1:00 PM. Last November 10, however, the league switched it with the De La Salle Zobel-Nazareth School of National University duel – ergo, UPIS-UST was now at 9:00 AM while DLSZ-NU was now the 1:00 PM game.

Citing “miscommunication” as what caused the unfortunate incident, Junior Maroons mentor Allan Gregorio told ABS-CBN Sports that they plan to meet with the UAAP secretariat to discuss the matter.

He also added, “It’s Christmas season. Let’s resolve this in a very peaceful manner.”

As things stand, UPIS is now at 0-3 – only one of two still winless teams in the tournament.
