WORTHY. RR Pogoy keeps proving himself as the player to complete FEU's Big Three.
When University of Sto. Tomas finally got their bearings and mounted a final fightback in Game One of the UAAP 78 Men’s Basketball Tournament Finals last Wednesday, RR Pogoy was unable to contribute anything in the scoring column for Far eastern University.
As a matter of fact, all of the graduating Tamaraws’ 15 points came in the first half as he made way for Mac Belo and Mike Tolomia to take over.
Still, the Cebu native’s hot start – with all but three of his total coming in the opening salvo – provided FEU a much-needed confidence boost against a Growling Tiger side which owned them in the elimination round.
Even with various hands in his face, Pogoy spearheaded the run that erased UST’s 8-3 start and instead gave the Tamaraws both the lead and the momentum. Talking about his early explosion, Pogoy told ABS-CBN Sports, “Sobrang thankful lang kasi pumapasok mga tira ko.”
He then continued, giving credit to his teammates as well, “Ang ganda rin kasi ng execution namin. Walang nagbabwakaw.”
It was the second time in three games that the green and yellow sniper led his team in scoring – proving for sure that FEU has a Big Three and not only a dynamic duo in Belo and Tolomia.
Still, Pogoy remained modest in saying, “Kelangan ko lang talaga mag-step up kasi maganda scouting nila kay Mac and Mike.”
