YEAR OF THE DOG. With the MVP and the Rookie of the Year in tow, NU just needs the biggest prize of them all to cap off another successful season.
Unless Ateneo de Manila University has their way, the 78th Season of the UAAP Women’s Basketball Tournament has certainly been owned by National University.
This became even clearer on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum after both Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year trophies are bound for Sampaloc.
Afril Bernardino matched Kiefer Ravena’s feat and claimed back-to-back MVP awards. The Lady Bulldogs’ do-it-all player boasts per game numbers of 14.5 points, eight assists, 2.5 assists, 2.2 steals, and 2.1 blocks..
Meanwhile, post presence Jack Animam was hailed as Rookie of the Year after averaging 5.9 points in 50 percent shooting and 8.5 rebounds.
NU is two wins away from a second consecutive championship. They also hold a thrice-to-beat advantage against the Lady Eagles in the Finals series that starts on Wednesday.
