New DLSU coach Ayo: ‘I will always make Letran proud’
MOVING ON. It's true! Aldin Ayo is transferring from Intramuros to Taft Avenue.

No doubt about it, the atmosphere was not fitting for a victory party.

Aldin Ayo’s “Arriba!” in front of NCAA champion Colegio de San Juan de Letran was met with tepid applause after the coach finally publicly declared that he will be taking his talents to Taft Avenue.

“Next year, I won’t be here. La Salle na ako,” the Letran alumnus said, his speech pattern unsure of how it will form itself as he confirmed rampant reports that he has agreed to become the new coach of De La Salle University.

The Sorsogon native became more sure of his words when he said, near the end of his speech, “I will always be a Letranite. I will always make Letran proud.” That statement garnered loud cheers from the Muralla faithful.

Ayo’s public declaration came at the most awkward of moments with the Knights supposedly celebrating their 17th championship on Friday inside campus. He didn’t divulge any specifics why other than, “Yung reason is very personal. After winning the championship, I gained everything pero naisip ko ring maraming importanteng nawala sa akin.”

As per the narration of the NCAA champion mentor, the Green Archers only contacted him last Monday. “Nasa Sorsogon ako nun and I drove to Manila immediately. Tuesday, nag-okay ako sa kanila,” he said.

The new DLSU coach then denied speculations about the details of his contract and only said, “’Di namin napag-usapan detalye. I just said yes.”

He also added, “Myself, I have enough.”

As for the matter of his still existing contract with Letran, Ayo said, “I still have three years left, pero sila father (Dominican priests), they’re going to let me go.”

The Green Archers’ coaching staff for next season is still being finalized, but their new mentor said assistant coach Siot Tanquinsen is likely to be retained. Ayo first deputy Louie Gonzales will also be heading over to Taft Avenue.
