Tamaraws give Racela the greatest of birthday gifts

BIRTHDAY BOY. Now 44-year-old Nash Racela is now a UAAP champion.
When his Far Eastern University boys were denied a sweep of the UAAP 78 Men’s Basketball Finals last Saturday night, Coach Nash Racela was supposed to celebrate when he was born two days later (Editor's Note: Racela was born on National Heroes Day, thus the nickname "Nash")
How could he celebrate, however, after witnessing a superhuman performance from Kevin Ferrer that none of his Far Eastern University boys were able to stop?
And so, he went right back to work, devising a way for his Tamaraws to take away their opponents’ strongest weapon.
In the season’s decisive game on Wednesday, FEU had the Growling Tigers’ captain on lockdown all throughout. By the final buzzer, Ferrer had only six points from only seven attempts and was hardly a factor at all in the Tamaraws’ 67-62 triumph.
The gameplan of Racela and his staff was so brilliant that even rival coach Bong Dela Cruz had to say, “’Di kami naka-execute dahil sa defense nila.”
As Game Three went to FEU, so did the UAAP 78 Men’s Basketball Championship go to FEU and it was the only present the amiable coach could ask from his boys. “Sabi nila sa akin, ‘Coach, yung birthday gift mo, sa Wednesday na,’” Racela shared.
He then continued, “They delivered and it’s a good gift.”
