INSIDE THE FINALS: Time to say goodbye

"Mahirap magsalita kasi masakit eh, masakit sa puso." - UST head coach Bong dela Cruz.
Regardless of what happened against the FEU Tamaraws, UST was going to say goodbye to its talented core for five years.
But with a third finals defeat in the last four UAAP seasons, letting go has never been more difficult for the Growling Tigers.
In an emotional farewell inside the UST dugout after the Tigers lost game 3 to the Tamaraws, 62-67, head coach Bong dela Cruz had nothing but well wishes for his seniors led by Kevin Ferrer.
"Wala naman nag-expect satin dito eh. You did a great job Kevin, ni-lead mo itong team. Kevin Ferrer good luck sayo sa PBA, pagbutihin mo. Family tayo dito," dela Cruz said. "Lumaban naman tayo eh."
The UST head coach also extended his congratulations and good luck with your future endeavors, particularly on the basketball side of things, to the rest of his seniors Ed Daquioag, Jon Sheriff, Karim Abdul, Kent Lao and to Louie Vigil, who is still undecided if he wants to return next season.
"Mahirap magsalita kasi masakit eh, masakit sa puso," dela Cruz said. "Kinapos lang tayo. Madami tayong pinagdaanan, nag-start tayo maaga, nag-prepare tayo ng tama kaya lang again short tayo. Yung pain na ito sa third time natin, nandoon pa din."
For his part, Ferrer was all thanks to his UST family for a wonderful yet sad final year of his UAAP career.
And as he exits his home all the way from his high school days, the King Tiger wants his team to continue with the fight that he and the rest of the seniors started.
"Sa mga matitira, sana ipaglaban nyo yung pride ng UST. Wag kayo mawalan ng pag-asa na porket wala na kami, wala na yung team. Maging challenge sa inyo yung nangyari dito kahit masaktan kayo, kasi hindi lang basta-basta yung school na yan eh, UST tayo," Ferrer told the Tigers.
UST Institute of Physical Education and Athletics Director Fr. Ermito De Sagon, O.P. meanwhile just tried to put the loss in a more positive perspective for the Tigers, saying that it's all part of a painful learning process.
"Basketball is not the whole of life. We could have done better but for us there are only two things, we win or we learn. We don't take this as loss, we take this as a learning experience," De Sagon said. "Ayaw ko yung nagi-iyakan, we just have to enjoy our basketball. Natalo tayo pero ganun talaga ang buhay."
