You have not seen the last of Easy Ed.
After a breakout UAAP Season that sadly ended in another finals defeat, UST Growling Tiger Ed Daquioag is taking a quick break to focus on his studies before resuming his basketball career.
"Siguro D-League muna pero papahinga muna siguro ako mga isang buwan tsaka ako magte-training ulit," Daquioag said inside the UST dugout following the game 3 loss to FEU. "And aral, kasi may second sem pa eh, starting January and then titignan natin."
For everybody's peace of mind, the explosive combo guard also explained his late-game actions where he opted to take the ball strong to the basket for a possible quick two.
The Tigers were down by three.
"Naalala ko yung sinabi ni coach na pag ganun na down by three, quick two and quick foul yung gagawin," he said adding that the decision was just pure instinct on his part. "Ganun din naman sasabihin ni coach eh, atake. So I decided na lang na atakihin."
With Karim Abdul struggling to maintain his quick start in the second half and Kevin Ferrer being hounded by the FEU defense since his game 2 explosion, it was Daquioag that carried the fight for the Tigers in game 3.
The Season 78 revelation finished with 21 points, hitting the big haymakers in UST's 16-0 run bridging the third and fourth quarters.
"Si Karim pag nagpo-post siya hindi na pinapatanggap, si Kevin naman ganun din kasi nung game 2 grabe yung tinira so open yung lanes to drive," Daquioag said. "Yun yung role ko eh, to drive."
Barely playing in UST's first two heartbreaks against Ateneo and La Salle, Easy Ed felt the sting of the FEU loss probably more than anyone.
"Kumbaga ito yung pagkakataon ko na makuha yun eh [championship] kasi yung dalawang taon hindi naman ako kagamit dun. Nasa kamay ko na yung championship na pwede kong makuha," he said. "Heads up pa din, ginawa naman namin lahat ng kaya namin para manalo sana, na-short lang."
Daquioa capped Season 78 with a Mythical 5 showing together with Ferrer.
